STAAR Theatre will present public readings of the finalists in its inaugural One-Act Play Contest on Saturday, Aug. 15.

More than 50 original plays were submitted by writers from 10 states. Each play was required to be set in the South. A panel of judges selected three Junior Division finalists and six Adult Division finalists to be presented by talented local actors.

Reading Schedule

9 to 10:30 a.m. — Junior Division

• “A Scandal in Damascus” by K.L. Davidson
• “Arabella” by Maia Bowers
• “Tchotchkes and Choices” by Maggie Little

11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — Adult Division, Session One

The first group of Adult Division finalists will be presented.

1:30 to 3 p.m. — Adult Division, Session Two

The remaining Adult Division finalists will be presented following a lunch break.

The Adult Division finalists are:

• “The Hollow Across the Road” by Kristi Henson
• “Flautista” by David B. Holton
• “Orange Tree” by Bethany Dickens Assaf
• “YOGACOP” by Robert Boucheron
• “Ornamental” by Elle Minh
• “Cold Feet” by Andrea Fine Carey
