“Grease” is the Word at STAAR Theatre in November
Attention, Pulaski residents! If you’ve noticed a shortage of hair gel in town, STAAR Theatre would like to apologize for the inconvenience. It’s likely that Danny (Daniel Roberts), Doody (Stan Pierchoski), Roger (Todd Frommeyer), Kenickie (Cole Barnes) and Sonny (Matthew Davis) have wiped out the stock.
STAAR Theatre at Antoinette Hall is geared up for its upcoming production of the beloved musical “Grease,” which takes the stage at 7 p.m. on November 8-9 and 15-16, with a special matinee performance on November 10 & 24 at 2 p.m.
A timeless musical set in the 1950s, “Grease” follows Danny Zuko and Sandy Dumbowski as they navigate high school romance and cultural shifts. With unforgettable songs like “Grease,” “Summer Nights,” “Greased Lightnin’” and “You’re the One That I Want,” this production promises both nostalgia and excitement. In a delightful twist, this version of “Grease” features an all-adult cast, with every lead role played by actors aged 35 and over.
“The public had been asking for a musical that allows talented adult actors in South Central Tennessee and North Alabama to showcase their skills,” Director Stan Pierchoski, adding that “Grease” was at the top of the list of possibilities. “We’re more than thrilled to bring this idea to life with such an iconic show.”
Pierchoski pointed out that “Grease” will be the first musical performed at STAAR without the “beloved pole” that had long obstructed patrons’ view of the stage. Removed in August and replaced with overhead trusses for support, the pole now serves as a bench on the sidewalk in front of STAAR.
In addition to the Danny and the other greasers, the cast features Sandy (Nikki Warren) alongside the sassy Pink Ladies: Rizzo (Paige Barnes), Marty (Amanda McMilin), Jan (Rosalyn Craft) and Frenchy (Tammy Pierchoski). Additional characters include Vince Fontaine/Teen Angel (JJ Lewis), Miss Lynch (Kate Barnes), Cha Cha (Alicia Gordon), Eugene (Micah Padgett), Patty Simcox (Ronda Massie) and Pink Lady Understudy (Taylor Paule).
Dancers Gately Pfeiffer, Tala Gvozdas and Kylee Griggs join the talented ensemble that includes Ann Bassinger, Emima Thomason, Stephanie Sanchez, Jennifer Griffin and Parker Brown.
Under the direction of Stan Pierchoski, with choreography by Sandy Slayton Mavrotheris and vocal/technical direction by Rosie Craft, this production has truly become a community effort. Stage Manager Kristen Pfeiffer, Wardrobe Manager Greta Santos and photographers Guy Schafer and Kayla Pierchoski have all played vital roles in bringing this show to life.
“The hundreds of hours put in by this amazing group is truly heartwarming,” noted producer Tammy Pierchoski. “The friendships made in community theatre are often lasting and deep. You really do become like family.”
Don’t miss this unforgettable performance at STAAR, located at 105 North First Street in historic downtown Pulaski, where seasoned actors will breathe new life into the familiar characters of Rydell High.
The production, arranged through Concord Theatricals and written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, is recommended for ages 14 and up due to mature themes and language.
“We’re excited to offer a seamless and secure online ticket purchasing experience,” said Tammy Pierchoski. “Choose your seats and purchase your tickets at STAARtheatre.org before they’re gone — like the hair gel! Grease is the Word!”
