The action is set in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where the town’s women gather for friendship, advice and a little gossip. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle, played by Lillian Mitchell, Truvy, played by Alicia Gordon, dispenses shampoos and wisdom to her loyal clients. Among them are the town’s rich curmudgeon Ouiser, played by Emily McDaniel; eccentric millionaire Miss Clairee, played by Rachel Lee; and the gracious local leader M’Lynn, played by Susan Callahan. M’Lynn’s daughter Shelby, played by Trinity Madura, is the prettiest girl in town and about to marry a “good ole boy.”
The story blends humor and heartbreak as the women’s friendships are tested by love, loss and resilience. Audiences will laugh at the witty repartee and be moved by the emotional depth that has made “Steel Magnolias” a treasured American play.
